Why Loki’s scene in Avengers 4 won’t be a flashback.

Sure, okay- we have Loki in his Avengers (2012) costume. Most would assume that this means a flashback to the previous films…

But, it doesn’t add up.

Let me explain why. Here we have set photos from Avengers 4. You can clearly see the muzzle round his neck and fixed on his face.

Presumably, this is from the last time we see Loki in The Avengers film:

Except it’s not.

It’s a different costume.

Loki is wearing his battle costume in the set photos, so why would he be wearing his muzzle prior to the costume change?

A stunt double was also present on set, meaning a possibility of violence or a fight scene?

Not only that, in the first Avengers the muzzle was computer generated- here it’s real. This could just mean nothing, and it’s probably just a technical preference.

To me, this shows that they are traveling back in time and altering past events to shape the future differently. Perhaps they’ll go back in time to ask him about Thanos? It’s hard to say at this point. All we know is that the scene is not a flashback, using this theory. It can’t be, as it never happened in the first place.

Of course, this is just a theory. Perhaps Loki was muzzled straight after being caught, and there’s a flashback to Thor escorting him to somewhere- before his costume change and departure to Asgard. But, why would that be needed? Since so many more set photos link to time travel, it only makes sense that these do too.

Could this mean that Loki could come back? That’s a hard question to tackle. The film is so far away so it’s impossible to know at this point.

We won’t know for definite until the release of Avengers 4 in May of 2019.

Note: special thanks to @oystersinthepits and @quu-kii for bringing this to my attention (they left a comment on my previous post.) 🙂

Omg that’s definitely his battle costume in the “flashback” pics and NOT the one he was wearing in “the Avengers” when Thor took him to Asgard. Of course it could also mean that Thor put the muzzle on him right after he was captured…

… then he… changed into fresh clothes before being taken as a prisoner to Asgard lololol.

But that guy is Tom’s stunt double as @oystersinthepits said, not just a stand-in.
