I like both for different reasons. When I’m able to focus and really spend some time on reading a long fic is balm to my troubled soul. Most of the time, however, I have trouble concentrating on one thing for more than about 20 minutes at a go. In that case, I love a series of one shots. I can enjoy each one separately in those moments when I have a bit of downtime, but I don’t have to keep a long narrative in my head in order to follow along. The gaps in that case are like the gaps between episodes or seasons. Time has passed in the universe, and I’m just catching up with the characters 🙂
What about the rest of you?

For me, it’s whatever your writing naturally shapes itself into. I love them all, because they all showcase different types of writing.
Chaptered fic where each chapter feels complete in itself and leaves you satisfied. Connected one-shots that jump around in time just like my mind does. Long chaptered fic that unfold over years and get their own place in your head for you to mull over between chapters. Tiny one shots that are sprinkled around like jewels. stories where you get one chapter per year, and it’s so meaty that it nourishes you until the next one.
I love you guys. The things you write are so amazing.
I prefer oneshots purely for lack of time I have to read a big fic. :3 I definitely enjoy some form of connection between oneshots or reading a bigfic if I have any extra time, like a few days off or something.
