fuck all philosophy except for whatever the hell Diogenes was trying to teach
direct action
Diogenes of Sinope was on some real shit i tell you what.
-He lived in a tub in the market place cause fuck houses. There he would regularly masturbate in public and didn’t give two shits.
-He would walk around with a lantern during the day and tell people he was looking for an honest man.
-Alexander the Great was a big fan of Diogenes. He asked Diogenes if he could do any favor, and Diogenes told him that he was standing in his light and to move. Alexander was impressed but the balls of this guy, and then said ‘
But truly, if I were not Alexander, I would be Diogenes”. Diogenes replied, “If I were not Diogenes, I should also wish to be Diogenes.
“
-He would Pee on people who insulted him.
-When Plato defined a man as a ‘featherless biped’, Diogenes plucked a chicken and brought it to him, declaring ‘BEHOLD! PLATOS MAN!’
-The face spitting came from an instance where a man invited Diogenes to his splendid manor, and told him not to spit anywhere. So Diogenes spit in his face.
-For a while his only possession was a bowl. When he saw a child drinking water with his hands, he threw away the bowl because why bother with it when he can just use his hands?
-One theory of how he died is that he just got tired of living, held his breath, and then died. He specified in his will he wanted his body thrown out of the city so wild animals can eat it.
Seriously people should read up on this guy. He was next level shit.
Everyone’s going on about how Infinity War Loki was depowered and useless and was a “lazy whiny twink until his dad yelled at him that one time” and is so “pathetic” compared to comics Loki and I’m just like:
1) Consider this: 2) No. 3) There is still a strong chance that Infinity War Loki is already involved in a plot to revise events in time, to the point that the plot twist is blatantly obvious, rendering this entire scene a clever act that is part of the long con, 4) Last time I checked self-sacrifice on behalf of a loved one wasn’t “pathetic,” EVEN THOUGH I AGREE THAT LOKI DOING SO SENDS AN UNHEALTHY MESSAGE THAT HEROISM ONLY EXISTS IN EXTREMIS, 5) Can we please not behave as if Loki led a charmed silver-spoon life free of emotional and psychological complication before the events of the first Thor movie, and that it was just Odin “yelling at” Loki that prompted a genuine nervous breakdown? Or are we just gonna be ableist like that lmao.
Normally I stay quiet about this stuff these days but I honestly can’t stand this new popular trend in interpreting the character. It’s like no matter how he’s written someone will find a way to continue hating him lmfao.
So I just started watching Agents of SHIELD. Season 1, Episode 15 (Yes Men) made me so happy! For starters, Agents of SHIELD is canon for the Marvel Avengers timeline. In this episode, Lorelai travels to Earth through one of Loki’s secret tunnels. Sif comes after her, commanded by Odin. She explains to Coulson and company that Lorelai escaped during the dark elf invasion. But episode 8 (the Hub) took place while the team was cleaning up after the Convergence. That means Lorelai arrived several weeks to several months after the convergence. At this time, Loki has already been revealed to be impersonating Odin. So, if:
1. The convergence and the prison breakout happened weeks or months ago
2. Odin sent Sif after Lorelai
3. Loki is impersonating Odin
Then this command could only come from Loki himself.
Why is this so important? Because so many people, especially Thor, assume Loki has been up to no good – day drinking, theater in his bath robe, etc. Actually, Loki was doing a good job, taking care of Asgard and seeing to his responsibilities.
Thor accuses Loki that the nine realms are in chaos. First, he was the one who promised to protect the nine realms. Second, uh, has Loki ever showed much concern for the other realms? Loki’s reaction to Thor is the real problem. He’s so used to groveling to his brother and facing unreasonable accusations and knowing Thor won’t seek understanding before passing judgement that he doesn’t even try to defend himself. He doesn’t mention anything he’s been doing. This Lorelai issue never comes up, nor any of Loki’s other successes. It’s a bit unfortunate. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch Agents of SHIELD because it is canon and it gives additional important information that the movies leave out.
“I am the Teller now. The last Teller. Come and Listen, Gods-of-the-Gods! The God of Stories tells your story tonight!”
–Loki: Agent of Asgard #17
As a storyteller, this issue–this series–resonated with me more than many comics have. “What is a lie?” is the defining question for most of this series, the question that makes Loki question himself and why he wanted change, and the answer is “At its core, a lie is a well-told story.”
Whether you agree with me or not on this being good, this issue was my favorite of all in the Kid Loki saga (from Journey Into Mystery to Agent of Asgard) because it explained how I feel about stories, how tales can affect anyone, how the right lie can bend reality just the right way. Stories and their tellers are just as important as war heroes and religious leaders. Stories well-told have the power to change. What they change is up to the listeners.
This is why I read comics. Not for the thrill of every issue’s world-ending battle (boring) but for the passion in the pages and the inspiration they wish to give its readers.
